1. What types of care are available at The Village at Gordon House?
A: Three types of assisted living care are available: residential, regular assisted living and intensive. Our Personal Care Program, is individually designed for residents who require additional care to meet their daily living needs. Medication administration, bathing assistance, dressing, grooming and escorting to meals and activities are just some of the special services we can provide. Warren's House, a specialized secure unit, is also offered for residents with Alzheimer's and other dementia related disorders. Occupational and speech therapy are available.

2. Can someone receive assisted living care for a short period of time?
A: Short-term stays that provide respite care services to seniors needing some assistance after surgery, during an illness, inclement weather, or when caregivers are out of town are available on a room availability basis. It is a great way to introduce you or loved one to what we have to offer.

3. How do you determine which placement is appropriate?
A: The Administrator and Director of Resident Care will assess the resident to determine their level of care and the appropriate placement.

4. How does the admissions process work for assisted living? What do I do if I am interested?
A: Once you have chosen to apply for admission, we ask you to complete the necessary paperwork. The process may take anywhere from one day to a week, depending on the availability of caregivers, family members and personal physicians providing information to our Administrator and Director of Resident Care.

5. May I continue to use my current physician?
A: A resident staying at The Village at Gordon House is welcome to continue with their current primary physician. However, there is an independent physician available on-site that has laboratory services in their office.

6. If a resident progresses/or requires additional assistance, may they be reassessed for care level?
A: Yes, residents may be reassessed whenever necessary. The three levels of care (residential, regular assisted living and intensive assisted living) are available to residents as their needs progress or as they require additional assistance. If a resident living in an independent living unit finds that they need personal care, they can be relocated to the assisted living facility.

7. Is The Village at Gordon House affiliated with any organizations (church, hospital, etc.)?
A: No, The Village at Gordon House is an independent company and is not affiliated with any other organizations.

8. How much does it cost?
A: Rates vary according to resident needs and room sizes. Please call the Administrator to request pricing information.

9. What is included in the daily rates for assisted living?
A: Daily rates in our assisted living facility include: room; personal care staff on duty 24 hours every day, offering general supervision as well as personal assistance with bathing, dressing, medication administration, and mobility; three delicious meals each day and snacks; resident activities program; wellness program; emergency call system linking resident with staff; housekeeping services, bed and bath linens; basic concierge service for appointment and transportation arrangements; chauffeured transportation within town limits; all utilities (except telephone and cable or satellite television). A complete list is available upon request.
B: Some items not included in the assisted living daily rate are: personal shopping service, beauty and barber services, laundry service, chauffeured transportation beyond town limits, guest meals, private group dining, medication, or physician services.

10. Does Medicare, Medicaid or insurance pay for any of the costs?
A: Assisted living must be paid for privately, unless you have private insurance that covers part or all of your assisted living stay.

11. When are visitors welcome? May residents leave the facility?
A: Visitors may stop by at any time. Visitors and residents may come and go as they please (when medically appropriate).

12. Can I place a room on hold?
A: Yes. Payment of the admission fee will hold your room reservation.

13. Can I be on a waiting list?
A: We do have a waiting list. If you would like to be on this list we ask for a deposit to ensure your spot. You or a family member will be notified when a room is available in the order in which deposits are received.

14. What are the rooms like?
A: Resident accommodations vary in size. They all have private baths. You can bring your own furnishings and personal items. We do, however, provide furnished accommodations if that is what a resident desires or for those who are respite stay residents.

15. Do you have cable TV?
A: A. Yes, our rooms are cable ready and services can be provided with various packages for service from an outside vendor.

16. Are guests permitted to eat in the dining room?
A: Yes guests are welcome to dine with residents. We ask that our guests call 24 hours in advance to make a reservation. The charges for guest meals vary depending on the meal.
B: Residents and guests are also welcome to use our private dining room. Reservations are required.

17. Are there recreation and exercise rooms?
A: Activities are held both within and outside our community. We have planned exercise programs to suit the needs of our residents. We offer a variety of activities to appeal to many different tastes and interests.

18. Do you allow wheelchairs, walkers and electric carts?
A: Yes, many of our residents have wheelchairs, walkers and electric carts.
B: We do not supply medical equipment; this must be purchased separately.

19. Do you have a beauty salon or barbershop?
A: Yes we have salon services for both men and women.

20. Who pays for utilities?
A: All utilities, except for telephone and cable services are included in the monthly fees.

21. Is Smoking Permitted?
A: Smoking is permitted in outside-designated smoking areas.

22. When are tours available?
A: Discover the beauty of The Village at Gordon House. For more information or to arrange a personal tour, please call (540) 832-2286. Staff is available for tours between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. After-hours tours are available by appointment. If you have a group that would like to tour the facilities, please call in advance to make arrangements.

23. How long has your staff been employed at your facility?
A: The Village at Gordon House has a very low staff turnover rate which enhances the consistency of quality care. Our Administrator and Director of Resident Care have each enjoyed 25 years of service at The Village at Gordon House. They carefully select and train our dedicated staff who on average have been here for 5 years or more.
